How to read the levels
Beginner poses are suitable from your first sessions, with the modifications on each card. Intermediate poses ask for more strength, balance or mobility and are best added once the foundations feel steady. Advanced poses carry more load or risk and should be learned with a qualified teacher.
Hold times are in breaths
Most active poses are timed in slow breaths, roughly four to six seconds each, because the breath is a better guide than a clock. Restorative and seated poses are timed in minutes. Treat every range as a suggestion and come out sooner if the breath becomes strained.
New to the poses?
Start with the standing poses and the Sun Salutation, then read Practicing Safely before trying inversions or deep backbends.
